1960s Bedroom Set Turned Modern

A local family was selling their family home, and I came across this older set. While most of the piece was solid wood, some of the drawer backs were warped particle board.

Level of difficulty: moderate

Problems with the piece:

• musty smell

• laminate was flaking away on fronts and sides

• warped particle board on back of drawers made some of the drawers difficult to open and close

Solutions:

• seal in odors with Bin Shallec Primer

• sand entire piece with 220 grit sand paper; parts were laminate were flaking, I used 120 grit then 220 grit

• used Titebond Glue in the warped particle board, and then made a "particle board sandwich" to push the board back together. (I've done this a couple of times and it's worked well!)

Entire piece was sprayed with Heirloom Traditions paint *mix of almond, colosseum, and bone

• Faux Wood top was created using Lilly Moon's water based gel stains (Natural Cork, Wood Barrel, & Old Fashioned)

• Hardware cleaned with Bar Keeper's Friend & Painted with Rub 'n Buff in Antique Gold
